ABOUT THE PROJECT

Branding for any entity involves getting to know the client, their industry, and voice. Even more so when the brand is not a company but a person. Michael Yamashita is a renowned photog with UNPARALLELed experience on the Asian Continent earning him two National Geographic covers and many awards and accolades to his name. While working in his studio digitizing his extensive film collection before it being housed at Columbia University I approached him about rebranding his visual identity and website.

  • Logo and Typography Treatment Designed in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • "Through The Photogs Eye" Pitch mockups designed in Photoshop
  • WEbsite design edited on Photofolio Platform

Originally I presented Michael the idea of a mountain motif for his logo to reflect the meaning of his surname Yamashita which means (One who Lives) below the mountain but upon learning of his family crest or "Mon" I decided to stylize it as a weathered woodblock stamp and gave the typography of his last name the same treatment. I pitched the idea alongside a refresh of his website to focus more on his imagery "Through The Photogs Eye" as it was previously was search based.
